Caledonia Milling Co.

Formed in 1892, the Caledonia Milling Co. was big business in Caledonia and area until surrendering their charter in 1964. In a historical miracle, many legal documents were preserved by Milling Co's lawfirm: Arrell & Arrell.

Milling Co. Prospectus

A scanned copy of the original letters patent and prospectus filed in 1892 by lawyer & Scott Brothers partner Simeon Hewitt. These government documents (and the original stock book with signatures of owners of initial stock) started 'The Caledonia Milling Co. Ltd. which would last nearly 100 years (surrendered in 1964).

Arrell & Arrell Statement

Caledonia Milling Company's account with Arrell & Arrell Law from a year in the early-mid 1920s. An interesting look at the price of law correspondence in an era gone by.     

Prospectus Update (1921)

In 1921, the Caledonia Milling Co. Ltd. filed to increase their capital stock since business was booming. The application was approved after much correspondence and a new prospectus (included here) was issued.      

Prospectus Update (1930)

In 1930, despite the Depression, the Caledonia Milling Co. Ltd. again wished to increase their capital stock since they had acquired the business interests of the former Shirra Milling Co. Ltd. The application was approved and a new prospectus (included here) was issued.      

Horse Auction

An unusual document and receipt of sale that reveals information about a horse that wandered onto Milling Co. property. It was advertised for the owner to step forward. When this garnered no result and auction was advertised.      

Price List (1964)

The February 17th 1964 price list for the Caledonia Milling Co. Ltd. This was at the very end of the life of the Milling Co. Douglas Scott surrendered the charter and sold the property in early Summer 1964.

The May 27 1963 price list for the Caledonia Milling Co. Ltd. This is from the second last year that the Milling Co. was in business.      

Vs. Fred Budynski

A short document regarding a mortgage in the name of Fred Budynski.      

Vs. R. Haire

A short document regarding potential sale of land formerly belonging to the estate of Hugh Scott (father of O.T. Scott) in 1930.     

Vs. Albert Carter

Legal correspondence from 1922 regarding remittance from sale of lumber by the Caledonia Milling Co. Ltd. to a Mr. Albert Carter.      

Vs. James Abbey

Legal correspondence between the Caledonia Milling Co. Ltd. and the representatives of Mr. James Abbey regarding money owed to the company for "goods provided."     

Vs. Joseph Fernihough

A long legal battle with Joseph Fernihough took place in 1924 over an account owed to the Caledonia Milling Co. The back and forth correspondence here eventually leads to successful payment of the debt as ordered by court.      

James Old Vs. Milling Co.

When James H. Old passed away the Caledonia Milling Co. Ltd. still owed him for services / property purchased. These documents from the estate of Mr. Old to the Milling Co. outline the proceedings.      

John W. Avery RE: Town Hall

A (likely) misfiled document somehow grouped in with the Caledonia Milling Co. Ltd. file at Arrell and Arrell. This correspondence with John W Avery has to do with debt incurred by the Town of Caledonia.
